Update: Starting September 8, Open Office Hours at Buzzshift are now every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 12:00pm-2:00pm

Ask Questions, Get Advice, Share Ideas, and Grow Your Network.

Our college days may be behind us, but we think there’s something to be said for that back-to-school vibe: Eager, anxious and a little blasé all at once (you can’t seem too excited to get back to class, after all). After the first few weeks, once you settled into a routine and began to remember classmates’ names, there were still always opportunities to run into new faces, make new connections and, if you were lucky, find that professor who just got you. Mine was Dr. Tate, and she knew which buttons to push to coax the best work out of me. Despite a bit of a rocky start, I grew to respect her opinion on matters both academic and personal. Her door was always open; even when it was literally closed. All you had to do was knock and there she was. We’ll come back to this here in a minute.

For those of you who have followed Buzzshift over the past several years, you may recall something called Open Office Hours. It was a time when we opened our doors to friends, clients, other colleagues and whoever else might want to drop in to bounce ideas around, learn what each other were working on and discuss what was going on in our industry. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=”18″ back_color=”color-jevc” back_image=”49182″ back_attachment=”fixed” back_position=”center center” parallax=”yes” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ row_height_pixel=”300″][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/1″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column column_width_percent=”73″ position_vertical=”middle” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]In the spirit of sharing ideas and helping each other grow, we’ve brought back Open Office Hours here at Buzzshift. We want to hear what’s going on with you, what you’ve been working on, talk through ideas or thoughts you’ve got bouncing around in your head. Come hang out, get to know us and meet some new people. There might even be a dog or two cruising around.

Sound intriguing? RSVP here and come on by!

Now briefly back to Dr. Tate. As satisfying as I’m sure it was to catch a glimpse of my undergraduate life, there was a point to my Dr. Tate story, which is simply this: Sometimes all you have to do is knock. We’ll be here, all you have to do is come on in.

P.S. Pizza will be provided. You’re welcome.

20 Must-Attend Digital Marketing Conferences in 2016

20 Must-Attend Digital Marketing Conferences in 2016

[vc_row][vc_column column_width_percent=”70″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column_text]Goodbye, South By.

We had some great times together. In fact, I was one of your biggest fans. We started trends together, launched little startups like Twitter and Foursquare, and kept Austin weird. You taught me so much, and I’m thankful for that.

But it’s time to move on. We’ve changed; we’ve grown. Or rather, you’ve changed, and you’ve grown into a sprawling behemoth with 30-minute walks between sessions that I can never get to on time. There’s been a corporate takeover: instead of a gathering of innovative startups, SXSWi has turned into an exposition for major corporations. Big brands set up six-figure “experiences” where you can try out the latest in quilted toilet paper. Because…interactive?

So, at BuzzShift, we’re no longer paying for employees to go to SXSWi. They can still go, but we’re not going to fund it (the way we pay for employees to attend other conferences that help make them smarter and better at their jobs).

In fact, we’re not that interested in any general conferences: the jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none surface-level events. If you already know the basics, you won’t learn much of anything there. The only reason I consider going anymore is for networking purposes, but that’s about it.

Instead, we encourage people to dive deep at more specialized digital marketing conferences. If you want to learn about different topics, go to different deep-dive conferences. Cross-pollinate between conferences. Be a conference-hopper.

What are the best digital marketing conferences in 2016?

State of Search

Where: Dallas, TX
When: November 16-17, 2016
Focus: Search Marketing
Why You Should Attend: OK, we might be a little biased toward our hometown conference. But stop by and we’ll tell you about the time a CEO called us up and offered to hire us solely because we ranked #1 in local search results. In other words, this stuff works.

So, what do you think? Is there another 2016 conference that should have made the top 20, but didn’t?
